What is Bitcoin? An Introduction

At a high level: you hold private keys that control addresses. To send bitcoin you build a transaction that spends UTXOs and creates new outputs. The transaction is broadcast to the network and sits in the mempool until miners include it in a block. Each new block adds a confirmation; more confirmations mean stronger finality. The blockchain is the shared ledger that everyone can verify.
